Clean Energy and Safety Take Center Stage at Upcoming MOA Expo 2025
Nairobi, Kenya – The matatu industry’s pivotal shift towards sustainability and safety will be the central focus of the MOA East Africa Public Transport Expo & Leadership Forum in November 2025. Under the theme “Driving the Future of Public Transport through Clean Energy, Innovation & Road Safety,” the event will serve as a critical platform for accelerating the sector’s transformation.
Organized by the Matatu Owners Association (MOA), the expo arrives at a time when the industry is at a definitive turning point. “Clean energy is redefining mobility, innovation is rewriting how we pay, plan, and travel, and road safety is no longer negotiable—it is urgent,” the event brief outlines.
The forum will delve into practical pathways for this transition, with dedicated panel sessions on “Electric Mobility and Financing Models for Modern Public Transport” and “Partnerships for Fleet Modernization.” These discussions aim to connect operators with green financiers and technology providers, addressing key barriers to adopting cleaner vehicles.
The expo will also be the climax of a national road safety campaign, featuring months of build-up activities, including road safety clinics from September 2025. The campaign will culminate in a prestigious Road Safety Awards and Networking Dinner, honouring the safest drivers, most disciplined SACCOs, and road safety champions.
“Why Uhuru Park? It is a people’s space, a national symbol that is accessible and open to all Kenyans. It also presents a green space that aligns perfectly with our theme on clean energy”” the organizers noted, highlighting the symbolic and practical significance of the venue.
The event promises to be the biggest industry gathering of the year, creating a vital knowledge exchange between local operators and leading international transport players to drive sector-wide professionalization and growth.
